My situation is this: We have two laptops at home which ordinarily connect through a wireless network to the internet by way of a wireless router and a cable modem. At least twice this year, Windows XP users of Check Point Software's ZoneAlarm personal firewall have lost their ability to connect to the Internet due to a Windows update. They are relatively cheap and work on almost any computer with a USB port. Tried the winsock or winsok (whatever its called), used malwarebytes (helped somewhat), even ran an disk error check twice. Should hopefully fix the problem. when it WAS working, a prompt came up from McAfee asking if we wanted it to work more efficiently…I clicked ok, the computer restarted, and from then on it didn't work. Some times people are able to connect using another adapter (for slim drivers), and also, if there is an updated driver locally, device manager will usually find it.
