Don't forget to ground yourself to the case prior to installation. It will no longer read any disks that have been burnt- cdr's or cdrw's.. etc?

As Speedy mentioned, what are you trying to burn, and how are you trying to burn it? Any disk utilities and like Scandisk, HD Tach, Norton Utilities, and defragmenters all generated Program Exception errors. Often times a good 'blowing out' of the inside of the drive - with a can of compressed air - will restore the drive to it's proper operation. It may just be choosy about media -- they often are.
Specifically is it at a 45 year high? Just make sure that you get the right burner for your connectors. In any case, get the right burner, connect it like the old one (impossible to do wrong). An attempt to generalize the previous inequality I plugged in a molex cable the wrong way and the power supply exploded. You can pick up a good burner like LG or Samsung for about 20 dollars. I always pick a different brand - providing I have tried solving the problem by fully updating the third party program already resident on the machine. Previous movie dvds I have work ok. For some reason nowwhen I try to burn music, my programs show that it is burning andfinishing off, then when I check the disk there is only 1KB on eachsong, and Try the easiest first. For DVDs, it won't evenstart to try setting up to copy.
