When I plugged it into my computer the icon on the bottom of my vista toolbar which is the seagate "device manager" flashed that 'no drive is connected.' I didn't get Fortunately I was able to recreate the data from scratch but it took a very long time. and it is easy too!! i then restated the machine and i can now access my computer like nothing had happened to it.
